Where to Start?

Any significant project involving a church building will require a considerable amount of planning.  Fortunately there are various resources available to help with this. Churchcare is a Church of England website with step by step guides to altering a buildingdeveloping a building, and conserving church contents.  Most of the information is relevent to all denominations.

Adapting churches for wider community use

A new Toolkit has been launched, which takes churches through the whole process of opening up their church for wider community use. This excellent new resource can be downloaded from the Diocese of Hereford website. The Toolkit is helpfully broken down into sections so no one has to download the whole Toolkit in one go.

The Church Commissioners have produced a guide to auditing opportunities for a church building.

Other denominations, for example the Methodists, also have a large amount of information on their national websites.

It is also a good idea to look at the Community Plan, if there is one, at the beginning of the process.

Finally, please do contact CTfC as we can help put you in touch with the people most likely to be able to help with your project.
