Visitor Info: The parish church of St Margaret and St James is situated about half a mile from the centre of Long Marton in the direction of Brampton, and close to the roadside.  It is the only place of worship within the parish and is featured in Sheila Rickett's guidebook "Lakeland Country Churches".  Thre are suggestions that the site was used for worship in pre-Christian times.  The earliest part of the present sandstone structure dates from AD1100 but the church has undergone a number of enlargements, repairs and refurbishments throughout the centuries.  It is listed in the County of Westmorland records as a building of special architectural and historical interest and is Grade I listed.  Given its age, the building is in good repair due to the diligence of successive generations of Churchwardens.  The small friendly congregation enjoys welcoming visitors.
