Carruthers Conservation is a building company that specialises in the conservation of historic and other traditional buildings. We have worked on many scheduled monuments and listed buildings throughout Scotland and elsewhere, and have particular expertise in traditional and sustainable building techniques.

Sara Carruthers founded the company in 1996. She advises on historic building repairs and directly supervises all our conservation projects. She is a Chartered Builder with an MA in Conservation from the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies in York and has over 20 years experience of working on Historic Buildings.

We can carry out the following works:

• Masonry consolidation and repair
• Lime pointing, harling and plastering
• Clay and earth construction
• Environmental control of dry rot and other timber decay
• Sustainable new construction
• On-site training for self-builders

We have frequently worked with local heritage organisations from project inception through to site work, helping them to develop ideas for the proposed conservation project, advising on appointing other professionals, applying for grants and carrying out the projects.

As well as important historic monuments, we also work on traditional vernacular buildings.
